Team Grace Message for June 5, 2013

Thank you for helping us spread the Good News of God’s amazing grace to the world using personal emails and social media.

These “weekly” grace messages are designed to be forwarded by you with any personal comments.

It’s simple, non-time consuming, and serves to spread the unleavened truth of the finished work of Christ to thousands.

The devil is delighted by all attempts to “perfect the flesh,” because he knows it is impossible, and the effort expended in the process leaves us tired and vulnerable to deception.” (Pure Grace – page 98).

The “law leavened” gospel that is taught in most churches and believed by most Christians produces a focus on sin rather than a focus on our magnificent Savior and His finished work. They say the more we battle sin the more we become like Jesus. The truth, however, is the more we recognize our sins have been taken away and we have been cleansed of our sins, the more we can live out who we are in Him.

Grace to you all,

“I never, never, never, have to crawl into His presence like some sinful, dirty thing. He always welcomes me as a son of whom He is proud and empowers me by His glorious presence to become the person He has already created me to be. See, He knows something the Pharisees among us don’t. He knows that if I spend time with Him, I can become like Him!”  (Pure Grace, page 95-96)

God’s presence is what heals us and empowers us to overcome “the sin that so easily entangles us”. God knows this and that’s why His throne is a gracious one. We can come before Him as sons and daughters not slaves or employees and there is a huge difference between those two realities!  It is in His presence that we can receive–everything we need.

The New Covenant reveals God to be a dear, dear, Father. God is our Heavenly Father and He desires a relationship with us that is not only familial but personal and intimate. Religious legalism presents God in a much different light that is not Biblical or true. Legalism mars the portrait of our Heavenly Father that the New Covenant has painted of Him. A revelation of grace is a necessity for this marred and grotesque misrepresentation of Father God to be corrected, and the beautiful and life-giving truth of our Heavenly Father to be restored to the Church.

Can we agree that Christians are not under the law?  Please consider how very important this elementary truth is to your life and spiritual well-being. Jesus imparts to you the power to bear life-giving fruit as you abide in Him. He says, “he who abides in me and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). A gospel of law-keeping is no gospel at all. There simply is no “good news” associated with a life lived under the law. That is true before salvation and even more applicable after one is saved.
(Pure Grace, page 59-60)

It is astounding that the Body of Christ almost universally believes the Old Covenant Law still has jurisdiction over our lives!  Whether or not Christians are under the law is a kindergarten question and most get it wrong. It is one of the most clearly answered questions in Scripture. (See Romans 7:2-8). We have been released from the law and joined to Christ. He has jurisdiction over our lives, NOT THE LAW!!

The mixture of law and grace in the Gospel most Christians have accepted as truth has blinded them to the reality of our Heavenly Father’s good opinion of us. All of us are so very special to Him. Legalism has taught us to hate ourselves, and that self-hatred has crippled our ability to be the special people He has designed us to be and to enjoy His presence as He so fervently desires.
(Pure Grace, page 54)

Understanding the truth about our righteousness (right standing with God), our union with Him, our sonship, our rebirth as new creations, and our position in the New Covenant, allows us to see ourselves accurately. When we do see ourselves as He sees us, we immediately begin to relate to Him in a new and glorious way!  It is thoroughly and magnificently life changing! Please receive the truth about yourself and allow that truth to transform your life.

“There is only one verse in the whole New Testament that requires us to confess our sins to God to be forgiven. One! This one verse is the fulcrum verse that tips your life toward legalism or toward grace, toward religion or toward intimacy with God, toward a life of performance or toward a life of rest and security, toward bondage or toward freedom, toward law or toward love.”
(Pure Grace, page 91)

The verse referred to here is 1John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”  This verse shows one how to be saved. That salvation is not possible without the “cleansing” from all “unrighteousness”. One then becomes the “righteousness of God in Him” (2Corinthians 5:21). Confession of sin thereafter may be for healing but never for forgiveness!  Why? He has already forgiven us!  There is no Biblical basis at all for a Believer to confess sin to God for forgiveness. Once one sees this truth, our access to God and our intimacy with Him frees us to rest in His finished work and not be tormented by our unfinished work!

“Religion and legalistic Christianity are tools the enemy uses to limit the damage done to his kingdom by the finished work of Christ. He uses religion to keep people out of the Kingdom of God through the lie of works-based salvation. He uses legalistic Christianity to keep true Christians from being able to demonstrate and display to the world the glorious Gospel of grace, and thereby limiting the impact a transformed life should have on the world.”
(Pure Grace, page 87-88)

The performance based approach in relating to God that is the hallmark of legalistic Christianity does not allow the glorious transformational work of the Holy Spirit to function properly. When one is always fearful that God is angry and disapproving, intimacy with Him is limited. Grace invites us to come boldly and without hesitation into God’s presence. It is there, in His presence, that we are transformed and matured. Legalism in all of its forms is a deadly deterrent to growing up in Christ and allowing love to regulate our lives. If I were the enemy, I would use the tactic of legalism too!

Quotable Grace: Believe and Receive

Here is this week’s quote from the book Pure Grace:

“Jesus kept the law and fulfilled its requirements for us. He did for me what I could not do for myself! This New Covenant is between God and His dear Son. Our part is to believe and receive what Jesus died to give.” (Pure Grace, page 77)

Let’s Talk Grace

Since God’s grace is freely given, there are only two possible responses. One can reject grace or receive it. Grace cannot be earned; it is a gift.  Therefore, to be possessed, it must be received. Receiving grace is impossible if one doesn’t believe it. Believe and receive!  The New Covenant is massively important to all Believers but the practical benefits of this magnificent covenant are missed if one doesn’t believe it and receive it. I CANNOT EARN THE BENEFITS AND BLESSINGS OF THE NEW COVENANT!!  Jesus “earned” the blessings for me and I honor Him by receiving what cost Him his life to give. When any Believer receives by faith what Jesus freely gives, he is blessed indeed!

Quotable Grace: Perfected For All Time

Here is this week’s quote from the book Pure Grace:

“Jesus has perfected for all time those who have been made perfect. (Hebrews 10:14). Please don’t argue with God about this. Don’t allow the enemy and his agents to move you off this glorious truth regardless of how hard it is to believe. If you will accept the reality that you are fully sanctified and wholly acceptable to God without sin attached to you, a remarkable thing will slowly begin to happen. You begin to be transformed through the renewing of your mind into the image of God. Love begins to govern your life, love for God, love for yourself, and love for others. You begin to become who you were created to be. That is the power of the New Covenant at work in you. ” (Pure Grace, page 75)
