Team Grace Message for April 17, 2013

Thank you for helping us spread the Good News of God’s amazing grace to the world using personal emails and social media.

These “weekly” grace messages are designed to be forwarded by you with any personal comments.

It’s simple, non-time consuming, and serves to spread the unleavened truth of the finished work of Christ to thousands.

Can we agree that Christians are not under the law?  Please consider how very important this elementary truth is to your life and spiritual well-being. Jesus imparts to you the power to bear life-giving fruit as you abide in Him. He says, “he who abides in me and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). A gospel of law-keeping is no gospel at all. There simply is no “good news” associated with a life lived under the law. That is true before salvation and even more applicable after one is saved.
(Pure Grace, page 59-60)

It is astounding that the Body of Christ almost universally believes the Old Covenant Law still has jurisdiction over our lives!  Whether or not Christians are under the law is a kindergarten question and most get it wrong. It is one of the most clearly answered questions in Scripture. (See Romans 7:2-8). We have been released from the law and joined to Christ. He has jurisdiction over our lives, NOT THE LAW!!

Grace to you all,

Pastor Clark Whitten

Team Grace Message for April 3, 2013

Thank you for helping us spread the Good News of God’s amazing grace to the world using personal emails and social media.

These “weekly” grace messages are designed to be forwarded by you with any personal comments.

It’s simple, non-time consuming, and serves to spread the unleavened truth of the finished work of Christ to thousands.

“There is only one verse in the whole New Testament that requires us to confess our sins to God to be forgiven. One! This one verse is the fulcrum verse that tips your life toward legalism or toward grace, toward religion or toward intimacy with God, toward a life of performance or toward a life of rest and security, toward bondage or toward freedom, toward law or toward love.”
(Pure Grace, page 91)

The verse referred to here is 1John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”  This verse shows one how to be saved. That salvation is not possible without the “cleansing” from all “unrighteousness”. One then becomes the “righteousness of God in Him” (2Corinthians 5:21). Confession of sin thereafter may be for healing but never for forgiveness!  Why? He has already forgiven us!  There is no Biblical basis at all for a Believer to confess sin to God for forgiveness. Once one sees this truth, our access to God and our intimacy with Him frees us to rest in His finished work and not be tormented by our unfinished work!

Grace to you all,

Pastor Clark Whitten

Team Grace Message for March 27, 2013

Thank you for helping us spread the Good News of God’s amazing grace to the world using personal emails and social media.

“Religion and legalistic Christianity are tools the enemy uses to limit the damage done to his kingdom by the finished work of Christ. He uses religion to keep people out of the Kingdom of God through the lie of works-based salvation. He uses legalistic Christianity to keep true Christians from being able to demonstrate and display to the world the glorious Gospel of grace, and thereby limiting the impact a transformed life should have on the world.”
(Pure Grace, page 87-88)

The performance based approach in relating to God that is the hallmark of legalistic Christianity does not allow the glorious transformational work of the Holy Spirit to function properly. When one is always fearful that God is angry and disapproving, intimacy with Him is limited. Grace invites us to come boldly and without hesitation into God’s presence. It is there, in His presence, that we are transformed and matured. Legalism in all of its forms is a deadly deterrent to growing up in Christ and allowing love to regulate our lives. If I were the enemy, I would use the tactic of legalism too!

Quotable Grace: Uncontaminated Good News

Here is this week’s quote from the book Pure Grace:

“A gospel of law-keeping is no gospel at all. There simply is no “good news” associated with a life lived under the law. That is true before salvation and even more applicable after one is saved.”  (Pure Grace Pages 59-60)

Let’s Talk Grace

Paul was incensed at the Judaizers who were coming behind him and corrupting the gospel of grace he preached by adding works of the flesh. They were attempting to mix law with grace and Paul reacted strongly to this corrupted gospel and the ones who were preaching it. (See Galatians 5). Grace must stand without any mixture of law or it isn’t grace at all! The Good News is not good news if it is corrupted with requirements of law keeping. Grace and law do not mix! If you want the good news to be good news it must be devoid of any law. Please do not allow any one to corrupt the beautiful gospel and thereby enslave you again in the prison of performance and law keeping. Jesus died to set you free from the requirements of the law. The Gospel is great good news but only if it is uncontaminated.

Secure Salvation

L writes in:

“I struggled under fear and doubt for many years over the issue of not being secure in my salvation, finding it difficult to feel close to God because of uncertainty whether my place with Him was secure or not! I try not to even read teachings that are about losing salvation because I fear going into confusion and doubt again.”

“I can’t wait to order and read the book by Pastor Whitten on grace! If only every Christian could be on a diet of pure and unadulterated grace for a few years, the church would be so empowered and all!”

God bless your ministry.

L, we look forward to hearing what you think once you’ve read “Pure Grace”.  Thank you for sharing your experience!

Raised to True Life in the Freedom of Grace

LB honors us with her testimony of finding God’s grace:

I have been coming to your church for over 5 years now….I heard your message yesterday and I felt compelled to write and say, Thank you.  You said something that has stuck with me since yesterday and I just kept thinking, If Clark wasnt obedient to God’s calling on his life…How many people would still be lost. When God told you, “I have no one else,” I truly believe he meant every word of that.

You see, I was raised in a Southern Independent Baptist church that was dripping with legalisim and performance.  I was taught that I was saved by faith, and secured by works.  How sad it was for this little girl, wandering through life fearfull every day that perhaps I hadn’t done “quite enough” to secure my salvation. There were many nights I cried myself to sleep hoping I wouldnt die that night incase I needed to work harder, or be a little less sinfull to “make it” to heaven.

I completely gave up on the church in my late teens.   I remember being disgusted by the church in general, and feeling like it was plum full of hypocrites, and being led by control freaks who just wanted to keep people under their control.  It was around that time that I read the book, “Grace Awakening.”  I remember, once again, crying and feeling so relieved, even though that book was baby food compared to yours, it was the first I had ever heard of Grace. After that I was addicted.  Like a fiend, I couldn’t get enough of this new message, and I spent years studying on my own the message of Grace.

When I started to come to Grace church, I would hold my breath every Sunday waiting for you to preach performance/works, just knowing that you had to let me down as all pastors in the past have…but without fail, every week, you shocked me with Grace dripping from your message, and pouring from your whole person.

This message of Grace, is so new to our generation because it has been squelched by leaders in the past.  When God told you he had no one else, he wasn’t kidding…Without you standing up there, doing as God asked of you, Preaching the message no one else is BOLD enough to preach, I would have remained an angry bitter lady against the organized church.  Now my children never have to grow up in fear as I did.  They never have to know the uncertainty of, “Did I do enough today to earn my way to Heaven?”  They get to start their lives in the FREEDOM of Grace and the Abundant life that God intended for us all.

Wrapping this letter up, Thank you Pastor Clark, for being faithful to God’s calling and being strong enough to SAY this message of Grace every week knowing that there will be many “Spiritual Giants” who will be angry or argue the validity of Grace.  Dont ever stop shouting it from the pulpit, and I will continue shouting it in my home, neighboorhood and among my peers.  After all, God doesn’t have anyone else.

LB

That is wonderful LB! Thank you for sharing your experience.

Quotable Grace: Salvation is …

Here is this week’s quote from the book Pure Grace

“What is salvation? Many would say it is getting me out of earth and into Heaven, but that is not salvation. It may be one result of salvation, but it is not salvation. Salvation is not getting me out of earth and into heaven; salvation is getting God out of heaven and into me!” (Pg. 30 Pure Grace)

Let’s Talk Grace

Salvation is a miracle of unbelievable proportion! God produced a “new creation” with whom He could come into union. This new creation had to be sinless, cleansed of sin, and absolutely holy in order to come into union with a holy God. That is why we (Christians) had to be “born again”. God didn’t clean up the old man, He created a new man, a man born of the Spirit, like Christ was born of the Spirit. This new man is the temple of the Holy Spirit, a joint heir with Christ, and a son of God. The miracle of the new birth is on par with the creation of the universe!

God’s Grace Connects Friends and Freedom

Pastor Clark Whitten has had the honor of ministering God’s Grace in many settings and churches. Today we wanted to share a testimony from NS who was impacted by God’s ministry of Grace. We hope you are encouraged as a result.

Dear Clark and Martha:

I just wanted to tell you what an impact your ministry had on me when I was at Gateway–changed my life–I absolutely ran into Jesus and His love! I still remember the first Sunday there–the atmosphere felt almost “charged” with excitement and electricity! I think it was the first time I had been in a church that was “letting” the Holy Spirit BE Holy Spirit!!! And the first time I had experienced the real love of Jesus through people … Made me wonder where I had been all my life (since I had grown up in church). And I still remember the joy on everyone’s faces when you would decree from the pulpit certain scriptures and we would repeat them after you! I had never been in such a “happy church”. Thank you again for always following the Lord’s leading. I am fortunate to be with a pastor here in Tucson (New Day Believers) that does the same–it’s not always popular–but that is where the Lord is! Fortunately, he believes in and preaches “real grace”–like you! I gave him a copy of your book; your ministry also impacted him when he and his wife were at Lakewood years ago–you were sharing about the salvations at Gateway. Funny how we all end up connected!

God bless you, your family and church family!

Sincerely,

NS

From Feeling “Not Good Enough” to Daily Joy and Freedom In Christ

Today we have a powerful and beautiful testimony to share with you. JP writes to us about how reading Pure Grace helped her escape a lifetime of not being “good enough” to finding joy and freedom, daily, in the finished work of Christ.

Hello Pastor Clark,

I have been listening to your Pure Grace message on your website’s podcasts and have read your Pure Grace book. My life has changed drastically. I was raised in a VERY legalistic church and have suffered tremendously over 30 years trying to live my life for God and always feeling like I was not good enough and how could God ever love me or accept me with all of my sins and faults. I lived in so much sadness and fear never realizing the love of God through Christ.

Learning More About Who I Am as a “New Creation”

Today, we want to share with you another example of how the message of Pure Grace is helping people find true freedom and liberty in the finished work of Christ. CJ writes:

I went home on Sunday, sat down, read the whole book and highlighted just about every page! Then on Monday afternoon, I reread all my highlights. Thank you, Clark, for Pure Grace.

Everything you wrote revealed Grace as God intended it to be. It also showed me how much the church has failed in teaching these truths. God help us! The biggest revelation I received was regarding who we become at salvation. Your book showed me just exactly what a “new creation” is immediately upon salvation. Page 33 explained this beautifully! We receive it all, for all time. My flesh is not me. I am like Jesus. I now understand why we won’t make a decision to no longer believe in Jesus. It is impossible! I knew a lot about what we received when we got saved, but I never received any teaching on exactly what a “new creation” is.

My mind is clear on this for the first time. I can’t believe I have been “in the way” this many years and I’m just learning these things! I was thrilled to see you include the Holy Spirit’s part. He is being left out all the time, and it just breaks my heart. Thank you, Clark, for standing up and defending these truths. It has changed my life and it will change many, many others.

(My husband) and I love you and appreciate you.

Blessings, CJ
