Here is this week’s quote from the book Pure Grace:
“Walk into almost any Protestant church and you will soon hear a mixture of law and grace taught and received with great enthusiasm, agreement, and amens all around! It doesn’t matter what flavor of church: Evangelical, Charismatic, Pentecostal, denominational, non-denominational, Reformed or Free Will, seeker sensitive, fundamental or liberal. At the end of the day almost all are presenting a version of the Gospel leavened with the law.” (Pg. 27 Pure Grace)
Let’s Talk Grace
The Glorious Gospel (good news) is reduced to “get saved by grace through faith, then perform for God’s blessing and favor”. The magnificent Gospel becomes merely a hope of heaven and a lifetime of human effort to modify bad behavior. Saved by grace then perfected by the flesh is the approach to discipleship almost all Protestant churches employ. Listen, please. What our magnificent Savior accomplished is so much greater than that! The New Creation He enabled to come into being through His finished work is already sanctified! No human (flesh) work can add to what He has already accomplished! It is through realizing who He has made us to be and focusing on Him and what He has accomplished that enables us to overcome the flesh. Our focus is to be on Him not on sin.
